Car Accident Legal Services in NYC
Here are just a few that our firm handles:
Injured in a New York Car Accident?
If you were injured in a New York City car accident, you may have a claim against more than the driver who hit you. The vehicle owner may be responsible for allowing the driver to use the vehicle, and a company that puts a commercial driver on the road may also be liable.
Our attorneys investigate every insurance policy connected to the vehicle involved in the crash.
Rear-End and Stopped-Traffic Crashes
Drivers who followed too closely caused 4,694 reported crashes during 2025. Stop-and-go traffic near New York City bridges, tunnels, and major roadways can lead to serious rear-end collisions. The resulting disc injuries, neck injuries, and back injuries may not become apparent for weeks.
We document delayed symptoms through your medical records and treatment history so an insurance company cannot dismiss your injuries simply because they did not appear immediately after the crash.
Intersection and Left-Turn Crashes
A driver making a left turn generally must yield to oncoming traffic under Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1141. In 2025, 2,145 crashes followed a driver’s failure to obey a traffic control device.
Our attorneys move quickly to request traffic-signal timing records, intersection camera footage, police reports, and witness statements before important evidence is lost or overwritten.
Highway and Expressway Crashes
Unsafe speed contributed to 2,811 crashes during 2025. A collision on the Van Wyck Expressway, Major Deegan Expressway, or another New York City highway can involve forces that are far greater than those in a typical city-street accident.
We investigate vehicle speeds, roadway conditions, driver conduct, and available event data recorder information from the vehicle that caused the crash.
If you were injured in a New York City car accident, speak with an experienced attorney before giving a statement or signing documents from an insurance company.

What Compensation Can NYC Car Accident Victims Recover
Compare Us Against Every Other New York City Car Accident Firm
| Your problem after the crash | The Law Offices of Eric Richman | Other Personal Injury Attorneys |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot reach a lawyer the night it happens | Eric or an experienced attorney on his team answers the phone, and we visit your hospital room when you cannot travel to Lexington Avenue. | An answering service might take a message and book an office appointment you are in no condition to keep. |
| Your 30-day no-fault form controls whether your bills get paid | We file your no-fault application inside the 30-day window and fight every benefit cutoff the carrier issues afterward. | Sign-up mills park the form in a paralegal queue until your benefits might lapse and providers bill you directly. |
| A city vehicle hit you and nobody flags the 90-day rule | We read the police report the day we open your file and serve the notice of claim on the right agency. | Firms treat your claim as an ordinary insurance case and may find the 90-day bar after it closes. |
| The carrier calls your injury minor | We build the Insurance Law 5102(d) record with your treating physician before any demand goes out. | Early demands might go out on an emergency room record, and the carrier prices your case off it. |
| You never meet the attorney whose name you hired | Eric Richman has tried New York City injury cases for over 25 years, and he or a senior attorney on his team stays on your file through trial. | Your case may move to a rotating case manager, and a new name appears every time they call. |
| You worry the fee climbs as the case grows | We charge one-third of the recovery. That number does not move, and you owe nothing unless we win. | Never |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What happens if the driver who hit me has no insurance?
Your own auto policy covers you. Uninsured motorist coverage steps in for the at-fault driver, and it applies when a hit-and-run driver leaves the scene. We also pursue any commercial policy that touches the crash, since those have far more coverage than a personal policy.
Does my recovery shrink if I share some of the blame?
Yes. New York reduces your award by your percentage of fault. For cases filed on or after May 26, 2026, a claimant whose share exceeds the other driver’s recovers nothing. Adjusters assign blame early and cheaply, so we document the other driver’s conduct before that number hardens.
How long will my car accident case take?
No attorney can answer that honestly. Some claims resolve through negotiation, and others take years in litigation, and the difference turns on your medical course and the carrier’s posture. Eric gives you a realistic picture of your own file instead of a promise he cannot keep.
I was a passenger in a friend’s car. Can I still file?
Yes. Your claim is against the vehicle’s liability insurance, and your friend pays nothing personally. Passengers rarely carry fault, which makes these among the cleanest liability cases we handle. You can also file against a second driver when two vehicles share blame for the crash. This may also be the case if your spouse was driving.
Can I still get help if I already gave the insurance company a statement?
Yes. A recorded statement can damage a claim without ending it. We request the recording and work to limit how much weight an adjuster gives what you said. Stop talking to the carrier before you sign any release or authorization.
